This is a bit of a different post, but it fits right with what I am trying to do with my blog. So, that’s why I’d like to participate in this.
What is the Sunshine Blogger Award? It’s an award given by peers to bloggers who are positive and inspiring. It’s basically like a chain letter of cheerful content. Now, even though my blog is not always about happy thoughts, its intent is to chip away at patriarchy and help every woman or other oppressed groups and minorities to find their voices and make themselves heard. Safe spaces should exist to express yourself, but I won’t rest until the whole world is a safe place for everyone. Yeah, idealistic, but you have to start somewhere!
I would like to thank Nadine for nominating me for this award. I met her on Twitter and she is trying to raise awareness about mental health issues with her blog. She wants it to be “a safe space where everyone can feel understood and talk openly about what they think.”
So what are the rules?
- Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link back to their blogging site
- List the Sunshine Blogger Award rules and display the logo on your site
- Answer the Sunshine Blogger Award questions
- Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions
- Notify the nominees about their nominations
And finally the questions Nadine asked me:
What is the next place you want to visit/travel to?
Well, I have always wanted to travel to India, and honestly, this is the first place that comes to my mind when I think about it. However, I don’t think I’m going to make it anytime soon, as there are other places that I will travel to first because they’re either closer or friends are staying there.
How many books do you own?
Not many. I’m an owner of a library card and as I move countries quite often, it’s just more convenient not to gather too many. I love books though. As a teen, I dreamt of owning a library.
Would you rather fight a polar bear or a crocodile?
Probably a polar bear. I’d imagine they’d kill you quicker.
When was the last time you did something spontaneous and what was it?
A couple of weeks ago, I really felt like going to the theatre. I did some research and found some Shakespeare played in the park. We went the same day, even though rain was forecasted. Unfortunately, the play was interrupted after the break because the forecast was right. Still enjoyed it a lot!
Who do you look up to?
All strong women who support each other and lift each other up. These women in particular. But any person who is patient and manages to remain calm in stressful and nerve-racking situations earns my respect.
What was the most beautiful place you have ever been to?
Well, honestly, I can think of a few. I really loved the Whitsundays in Australia and the Great Barrier Reef. The Last Bookstore in L.A. was just magical because obviously it was all about books. It had so many magical book art displayed. I’ve never seen anything like it. I also love the view from the Southbank in London. In the summer having a walk or a drink there, is just one of the most relaxing things I can imagine. My favourite city in terms of history is Rome. It’s like walking through a museum, there’s always something to see! And the blue sky and the sun make it even more special. Especially, when you’re used to cloudy, gloomy London.
What was the nicest compliment you ever gave?
I don’t know if I can make a judgement on that, because it’s more about what your words or sentiment creates in the person you’re gifting it to. I try to support people when they feel passionate about something and I can see they’re talented. So, I think the nicest compliment is to be supportive. It goes further than just words.
How many technical devices do you possess?
A lot. 2 laptops and 3 phones. We also own a TV. It actually doesn’t seem that much when I think about it now. Why does it feel like a lot? Probably, because I use those devices way too much.
What is your favourite foreign cuisine?
I grew up with Arabic food, and it has to be that. Arabic food takes me home.
What is a song you would blast in the car with open windows in summer?
I have blasted “Fly Away” by Lenny Kravitz. I would blast a lot of songs by Ed Sheeran at the moment. For Karaoke it has to be “Smells like teen spirit”, my all-time favourite Karaoke song…
Do you believe in fate? Why or why not?
I don’t know. I don’t think in those terms. There’s things in life I can’t control, but I want to focus on the things that I can influence and control. In my experience, people who believe in fate a lot of times excuse things they do or don’t do because of it. If there is fate, it doesn’t matter. It shouldn’t interfere with my life and my aims in a way that influences my actions.
